The Sun, The Moon and The Tides
We have been learning about the connection between the sun, moon and tides. November was a great month to monitor the moon because we had a SUPER moon on the weekend of the 14th. We learned that the moon’s gravitational pull has a large impact on the tides so this month when we had our SUPER moon we also had extreme tides. We just had to see! So we walked down to the water front to check out the SUPER high tide. The high tide plus all of the rain we have been having really made things interesting.
Carving
We will be learning about carving techniques and eventually we will be carving our own boats. Check out this video as inspiration!
Be safe!
We love science! Right now we are learning about how all living things sense and respond to their environment. We are focusing on Sunflowers and their life cycle. What makes a sun flower grow? What happens that encourages it to die? How does it thrive? What time of year do sunflowers grow? What environment do they do best in?
Last week students cut open some dead sunflowers and investigated their parts.

This week we are looking more into answering the questions above. Check out this video of a sunflower growing using time-lapse. What do you notice is happening to the environment that is impacting the sunflower?
One of our science learning intentions is to see how all living things sense and respond to their environment. We have been looking at how plants, animals and humans adapt to the changes that occur from season to season. Here are some of the things students researched and recorded.
