We have started learning about the brain! Did you know that your brain is like a muscle? It can grow and get stronger with practice and experience. Did you know your brain can change? This is known as neuoplasticity. That’s a big word! It means that our brains have the power to unlearn things we don’t do often and to build new connection by learning new things. The neurons in our brains strengthen when we do things over and over. If you are just learning about division your neurons will have a weak connection. But once you have learned a few different ways and practiced your neurons will have a thicker, stronger connection. Neat! We are excited to learn more about our wonderful brains!

This week students have been working on learning the language around having a growth mindset. Students have been able to share how a growth mindset person believes that with effort they can learn new and challenging tasks. A fixed mindset person does not value effort and sees people as either having the ability or not. The students worked in pairs to create a puppet play that models how one person can have a fixed mindset while another has a growth mindset about the same topic.
